Marianne van Heeswijk won in 2023 de derde prijs in de open section van de internationale ontwerpwedstrijd The World of Wearable Art in New Zealand, waar 18 finalisten in zaten. De titel van haar inzending was Once upon a Time which is 'an open invitation to All to reconnect with your Soul, the Other and Nature'. In de 2 uur durende theatrale show was er werk van totaal 120 finalisten te zien op 5 ronddraaiende podia. (zie de compilatie video) Deze show werd totaal 19 x opgevoerd en door 60.000 mensen gezien. Sinds haar deelname aan de wedstrijd World of WearableArt is er een nieuwe inspiratiebron aangeboord waaronder grote gehaakte sieraden en kleurrijke maskers, geïnspireerd door diverse culturen. Zoals altijd is haar bewuste keuze voor tweedehands materiaal geen toeval, maar een statement: alles is er al. Upcyclen is voor haar geen trend, maar een noodzaak in een wereld die ten onder dreigt te gaan aan hebzucht en materialisme
Door deze materialen een nieuw leven te geven, toont ze dat schoonheid en waarde niet afhangen van nieuw of duur, maar van creativiteit en respect voor wat al bestaat.
